Summer Dance Institute
June 16 - July 2, 2008
In June, the Dance Program will attract dancers from around the country and beyond when it hosts the 2nd Annual Summer Dance Institute. Participants may sign up for one or more of the Institute offerings which include a two-week dance intensive, a one-week resident intensive and a five-day Intercontinental Dance Festival featuring a broad range of master classes daily and a variety of concerts which are open to the public.

The city consistently ranks as one of the best places to live, work, visit, and play in the United States and is well-known for its abundant celebrations and festivals, especially during the summer months.
This June, the UW-Madison Dance Program will be the center of attention when it hosts the 2nd Annual Summer Dance Institute. Participants may choose to sign up for one, two, or all three weeks of the Institute’s offerings:
- Intensive Dance Workshops, June 16-28
- Dance Millennium Intensive, June 22-28
- Intercontinental Dance Festival, June 28 - July 2
The culminating Dance Festival, featuring daily concerts and master classes, is co-sponsored by the World Dance Alliance Americas.
Call for Proposals to show your work or teach
The Summer Intercontinental Dance Festival invites participants to submit works for performance at Festival concerts and/or to teach master classes during the Festival week.
In addition to performing and teaching, we offer extensive networking opportunities and a supportive environment for formal and informal exchange throughout the three-week series. You’re welcome to join us for all or part of the Summer Dance Institute.

The UW Dance Program was founded in 1926 by Margaret H’Doubler and bears the proud distinction of being the first university in the United States to offer a degree in dance. The Dance Program focuses on training the thinking dancer, a dancer with a deep understanding of the physical, spiritual, and artistic aspects of the body in motion.

There is also an excellent hostel located downtown for those so inclined. It has kitchen and laundry facilities available on site. Rates range from $21/night per person for a bed in a shared room to $44/night for a private room. The hostel generally offers lower rates than those listed for groups. Parking:
Campus and downtown parking is limited. Participants are encouraged to lodge within walking distance of Lathrop Hall. The closest parking decks are: the City of Madison State Street Ramp at 415 N. Lake St. and 430 N. Francis St.; the Lot 83 Ramp at 601 University Ave.; and the Lot 46 Ramp at 301 N. Lake St. Deck prices vary by location. Limited parking (meters and day-rate) is available beneath Granger Hall, whose entrance is located on Brooks St. between University Ave. and W. Johnson St. Additional two-hour meters are available around campus as well for $2.50/2hr.
