Personal Biography

Chris Walker, Assistant Professor of Dance, is the Artistic Director of the First Wave Hip Hop Theater Ensemble at UW-Madison and artistic director of NuMoRune Collaborative. Walker has taken First Wave, which received the Governor’s Arts Award (2010), on local, national and international tours including the Contacting the World Theatre Festival 2010, in Manchester, U.K. He was selected to produce new work and perform nationally and internationally in Kaohsiung, Taiwan (July 2009) for the World Dance Alliance’s International Young Choreographers Project, in Panama City (August 2009) for the Coraza 10th Anniversary Concert and in New York (July 2010) at the World Dance Alliance General Assembly. Walker received his MFA and BFA from the SUNY College at Brockport. He was awarded a Madison Arts Commission–Signature Grant (2010) to produce "Dubwise," performed in Walker’s concert Generation Dancing, which sold out houses in both Bellingham, WA and Madison, WI.
