Susan Marshall & Company
Guest Artist in Residence
Friday - Sunday
November 6 - 22
"Living takes practice, Susan Marshall suggests repeatedly in the truly experimental dance works that make her one of the most significant choreographers today. Her powerful imagery is concerned with process: men and women continually fumbling toward human contact, learning how to mitigate instinctive physicality into more tender fluency." -- Anna Kisselgoff, New York Times
Susan Marshall (Artistic Director/ Choreographer) is a master at examining the human condition through dance. Her choreography fuses modern, ballet and post-modern release styles with everyday actions, transforming simple movements into rich expressions of dance. In collaboration with dancers of Susan Marshall & Company, she has created more than forty dance works which have been performed in theaters throughout the United States and abroad. Marshall, her artistic collaborators and company members have received a total of ten New York Dance and Performance Awards (BESSIES) for their artistic achievements over the years. This fall, Marshall begins her tenure as first director of the Program in Dance at Princeton University.
As the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts: American Masterpieces/Dance grant, the Dance Program is delighted to welcome Susan Marshall and members of her company to campus this fall. Under their tutelage, students will learn a masterpiece from Ms. Marshall’s repertory which will be performed in the Fall Faculty Concert, November 21.
